Here I Sit

Here I sit, in front of the computer at 2 am. I did actually go to bed a good 2+ hours ago, but for like the 5th or 6th night in a row, I've been awoken by screams from what sounds like a madman. Corgan has been going to sleep as easily as he usually does (even with some crying sometimes), but lately he's been waking up every 2 hours or so throughout the night, usually beginning between 1 and 2 am. I try to let him cry through it, but it's hard for a number of reasons. 1. It's always hard to hear your baby cry. 2. He's STILL in our room (NOT BY CHOICE!) and sleeping (or screaming) probably about 6 feet from my head. 3. I'm a light sleeper (not that this matters with the type of screaming that he does). 4. Sometimes it's just easier to get up and bring him to bed to nurse back to sleep. 5. He's been teething and had a cold lately, so I never know if the waking up is related to pain or discomfort from one of these things or if he's just awake. When I do lay there and let him cry, I feel guilty the whole time trying to figure out if he's really suffering and needs me to rescue him or if he just wants up. 6. Even though Daddy can lay in bed about 4 feet from his screams and somehow manages to sleep through the whole thing, I can't so I have to leave the room half of the time which means that I either end up on the computer or trying to sleep on the couch until the cries stop (but I usually just end up worrying about #5 the whole time).

I know that by going and getting him, I'm just encouraging the cries and not helping the situation at all in the long run, but... ugh... sigh... frown... Will I ever get a good night's sleep again? Sometimes I really wonder if the answer is "No, not until he's in a different room." and it makes me want to cry and/or scream myself because I know that day (or night rather) is still far, far away. Unless I resort to sleeping in another room myself, which I may do this week to see if it helps.

in response to your question about when you get to sleep.. the answer to that is... it does get better but I got a call last night at 2 am from Kelly crying.. she needed us to come pick her up... she was out with a couple of friends and when she went to the bathroom her wedding band fell down into the toilet (she bent down to see if she could reach - auto flush!!! and away it went. Poor 'baby' .. I felt so bad for her.. since I'd lost my own diamond in my wedding ring.. I could understand but told her, it's just a 'thing'. "Papa" went to get her and I stayed awake feeling her "pain".. No matter how how old you guys are.. you are still our babies.. and we can still loose sleep over you :) That is what Love is all about!

I'm wondering if he's going through a growth spurt and is really hungry at night? That's been happening to Ethan lately and he's teething on top of it. He was sleeping through really well, but all of a sudden he's waking up once or twice a night absolutely famished - gulps down the bottle and goes right back to sleep. I asked Dr. H about it and he said it's to be expected, since he's such a big boy...... since Corgan's in the big boy category, maybe that's what's going on too?

Sounds like right now everyone is going through this "wake up screaming" phase with their baby. Kelson has been doing that too. Not too often, but occasionally just blood curling screams. Poor thing. I'm like you- do I let her cry it out or is something wrong. Most of the time I go get her or try to soothe her without picking her up. Lastnight I let her cry it out and she went back to sleep. Jason usually helps out but he wasn't home, so its all on mommy :) I can't believe Keith sleeps through that- wow. Good thing Belle doesn't wake up. hang in there sister. You want 2 more huh ;) hehe! I would hire a nanny first! :) Love you!

I agree with Kelly... thank goodness Belle isn't a light sleeper!

Does he feed and go right back to sleep? And then still wake up screaming 2 hours later? Man, that's really a tough situation. :(
