Mixing it Up

Since the kids have been sick and I haven't had anyone to help watch them, I have had to be pretty creative with my workouts these past few days. I've gone bike riding (which isn't too far from normal), I've been doing lots of Wii Fitting, and I discovered the FIT channel and have recorded a few workout shows that I've tried. I found a cardio boxing one that I absolutely LOVE! It has made me want to look into cardio boxing classes at the gyms and maybe even trying some real boxing. It's so up my alley because it's fast paced, yet I don't have to be graceful or too coordinated. :) I love the boxing game on Wii Fit too (now that I get the patterns). I think I want to go out and get a jump rope too, so on the days that I'm stuck at home, I can do that sometimes.

I am enjoying mixing up my workouts. When I do go to the gym, I usually end up on the elliptical for at least a part of the time and I try to do a certain set of weight training exercises, but I like popping in to a random class and am really loving swimming now. I still don't care much for the stationary bike, but I do like riding outside. I'm hoping that I will be able to incorporate the treadmill back into my workout on a regular basis soon. I have a feeling that once I get back on the treadmill full force, I will be on there a lot because I like to challenge myself when it comes to running faster, harder, and longer.

I've been very surprised at how "balanced" I am according to Wii Fit. When I do most of the yoga poses, I get "Yoga Trainer" (or whatever the 3 out of 4 star rating is) most of the time. I'm certainly not flexible, but apparently I have a strong "core" because I'm pretty good at most of the balance-related tests and activities (even with Corgan walking up to me and pushing on me or Annabelle trying to hug my leg while I balance). Ohh... and yesterday my Wii Fit age was down to 30 (but today it was up to 32 again.. but I also gained .4 lbs... haha).

It's funny to me that just a few months ago I was fretting because I didn't think there was any way that I'd be able to exercise again. I was stuck at home with Corgan and thought that there wasn't anything that I could do here. I didn't think daycare was really an option for Corgan since he was VERY clingy (although, I do think he's improved there tremendously in the past few months). And now look at me. Where there's a will, there's a way!

My Wii Fit age was 30 yesterday and 32 today! Ha ha! I also like mixing up the workouts. Yesterday I wii Fitted, did a 25 min pilates class on demand, and took a step class at the gym. Pretty good. :)

Should that be 'where there's a Wii, there's a way'? Sorry...

Rob was just saying yesterday that he remembered he'd got a skipping rope for Christmas last year and he could take that with him when he travels, in case there's no gym or other opportunity to exercise. I think I'm going to break out the rope when I get home, just for a bit of variety.

My trainer guy said that mixing it up is the best way to burn more calories and lose more weight. Apparently, your body gets used the same stuff and doesn't work as hard. I noticed a difference when I started doing more than just the treadmill and weights. I still prefer running, but I like the change in my body when I mix it up :) By the way, you are doing awesome!
