Finally passing was a strange emotional experience. I felt like I should start partying, painting something, screaming, or even burn something (I'm not quite sure why I had that inclination... maybe because I had been thinking that I would burn the palettes that the ex-GC left behind at "grand opening" party after we finished?), but it ended up being very anti-climatic. Once he signed off on my "hard card" (the paper that the inspector has to initial after each passed inspection), we said our goodbyes, and he walked out the door. I went upstairs and announced "we passed!" only to find that my mom wasn't even in the room and Annabelle didn't really care. Then I called Keith to tell him and he hung up on me (because he was on a call at work and doesn't know how to send his phone to voice mail so he answers the phone then hangs it up right away). Another thing that made it strange is that this "pass" means that I will probably never see some of the people who I have gotten to know through regular visits over the past few months, including my inspector. He was a really nice old southern man, and I could tell that he was always looking out for us. He was very understanding of our situation and bent over backwards to help us out quite a few times. It was kinda the same thing when I said goodbye to the electrician the other day, except that I had a feeling they would be back because of some kind of electrical problem. :) It's going to be strange when our "handyman" and his wife (who's also his right-hand woman on the job) aren't coming over daily since he's been at our house at least 5 days a week since early November... even when we weren't there.
Anyway... YEA! WE PASSED! To celebrate I have started decorating the kids' bathroom already. :) It's not totally done since the toilet seat has to be installed (which is not as easy as it sounds... seriously... I could probably do it, but I'll leave it to the plumber since it's a crazy dual-flush hard-to-access toilet) and a minor crack on the tub has to be repaired, but it's useable. :) It's pretty funny because I've been buying things for these new rooms for so long that I've obviously forgotten what I've bought. When I got out the kids' bathroom stuff, I ended up having 4 bathmats different for that room! But... I've bought so much that I all I need is a trash can (which I may actually already have stuffed away somewhere... who knows??) and the room is ready to go! I also finished painting (faux-ing) our master bathroom today, so that's on it's way to "done" too. It is still lacking new o-rings for the sink faucets, an attachment for our washlet, shower doors, and the built in make-up vanity. Other rooms are all lacking flooring, but the carpets will be installed next Monday and the wood floors should go in early next week too! Then I can REALLY start moving in! It's going to be so weird to sleep downstairs. I can't WAIT to use my new tub and shower too!!!
Pictures coming soon. :)
P.S. I've gotten a few more RSVPs since my rant about that. Still haven't heard from a majority, but at least a little less is up in the air. I asked about it at school and the lady at the desk wrote herself a not to remind parents about it as they picked up their kids. Crazy that even with that, I've only gotten 2 more responses (out of 9 kids). I've resorted to over-buying. Sigh. At least it's supposed to warm up a little this weekend. :)
