Still Hospital Residents

Everything has been going well. Although the doctor told me that we could go home Friday night, I decided to hang out here another day... the food is just too good to pass up! Seriously though, I feel okay and would have pain meds to take home anyway, but another night of help was too tempting. Corgan was circumsized this morning which means that we have to change his dressings every 1.5 hours so I wanted to stick around for the help overnight. Annabelle has been good with Corgan, but she's still the same extra-energy-ball that she's always been, so another night/day of peace to concentrate on Corgan while knowing that Belle is in Grammy and Olivia's good hands was just another "pro" for staying. Saturday morning, we should only have to stay as long as it takes for my doctor and Corgan's doctor to come around in the morning and officially release us, so I think we'll be out of here by lunchtime and on our way to the barn.

Corgan seems to be a really healthy little boy. He has such an appetite and wants to eat all of the time. He's done really good with figuring out the whole breastfeeding thing too. It's amazing how much easier that part has been the second time around. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with my experience though. All of his tests have been coming back good too... hearing test, PKU/bilirubin test, and whatever else they test him for. At first, his blood sugar levels were low so they were feeding him sugar water, but that righted itself pretty fast. They'll test his bilirubin numbers again tomorrow before we leave, but the nurse said that she doesn't think they'll be a problem because of how they've been reading. Also, she said that if the baby is the same blood type as the mom (and Corgan is my blood type), then they're less likely to be jaundiced. Interesting; huh?

Annabelle got to come in the morning after Corgan was born to meet him and visit with Mommy and Daddy, and our awesome photographer, Erica, was kind enough to come back to the hospital to take pictures of the siblings meeting. I brought Belle a few presents from Corgan, so she got to open them up. The first present was a set of Dora stickers, and those stickers pretty much occupied her for the first hour that she was here. She paid little attention to Corgan until we put him down on the bed to pose him for a few pictures, then she wanted to be in on the action. She was pretty adorable and wanted to pretend to nap like baby Corgan was doing. After a little while of pictures on the bed, she started to get restless again, so she opened another present, a "Big Sister Dora" dvd which she wanted to watch immediately. She climbed up in the bed and watched the movie for a while so we all got to dote over Corgan for a little while longer, then they went home. Grammy brought her back just before her bedtime, and they did the same thing again today. It surprises me how good she has been about not being clingy at all. I pretty much expected that when she came to see me at the hospital, she'd stick to me like glue and cry when she had to go, but that hasn't been the case at all. Even though a tiny part of me is disappointed that she hasn't been upset, it really feels good to know that she's in such good (and fun) hands with Grammy and Olivia taking care of her. I don't know that it's sunk in with her that Corgan (aka "Baby Bro") is more than just someone she's going to visit and is actually coming home when Mommy comes home, but we'll see how she REALLY reacts tomorrow.

Keith and I have enjoyed this time to concentrate on Corgan, and we both love the experience of adding a son to the family. We're ready to get home and figure out the family dynamic of having a boy AND a girl now. It really IS amazing how adding a new member to the family multiplies the amount of love that you have to give rather than dividing the love that you already have to share. Corgan has become a part of us so quickly, and we couldn't be happier!

In addition to the original pictures of Corgan that Erica took, there are now pictures of Belle meeting Corgan and pictures from my camera and my mom's camera from Corgan's first days on our photo gallery.

I am so glad things are going smoothly for you. Things ARE easier the second time around. Belle will probably be a little different when you get home, but hopefully it won't be too difficult to work around. Leah is throwing more fits than usual, but nothing outrageous. We can't WAIT to get down there and see Corgan & Annabelle both!

Wow...I love this

This has been my biggest fear! I love that you said that. What an interesting way to look at it!!!

I'm so glad to hear that everything is easier for both you and Angelle. That makes me think I'll have the same luck.

I'm glad to hear that everything is going well. We can't wait to meet him.
