Oh What A Night!

Last night, our first night home with two babies in the house, was a tough one.

Although I'm recovering from the c-section pretty well, I'm starting to get sore in general on top of the healing scars. Because of using different muscles to lift myself, my back, arms, neck, and shoulders are hurting. Those same muscles and joints are hurting because of the strange positions that you have to contort yourself into for breastfeeding and just looking at your new baby in general. Swelling is starting to go down, but the carpal tunnel is hanging around so I have that to contend with too. Due to all of this uncomfortableness, when I finally got into bed last night around midnight, it took me a few minutes to get situated into a semi-comfortable position... and then the fun began...

Belle hardly EVER wakes up in the middle of the night, even when she isn't feeling well. But, of course, last night she did! About 2 minutes after I got comfortable in bed and was ready to actually get some sleep in my own bed, we heard Belle start screaming bloody murder. Keith and I both laid there for a couple of minutes hoping she would just go back to sleep (she does that in the morning sometimes) and my mom even came up to check on what was going on. After giving Belle a few minutes, she was just getting louder so Keith finally went in to see what he could do. For some reason, Belle's diaper was soaked through and not really on good (even though she had pants on over it) and the bed was soaked too. She'd only gone to bed a couple of hours earlier, so it was crazy that her diaper was even that wet to begin with. Keith changed her, but she just kept yelling for Mommy, so I went in to do my Mommy magic. While Keith got everything all cleaned up, I rocked Annabelle for a while and she finally calmed down. She has to have had a bad dream or something, because her cry was more than just a wet diaper. So, about 45 minutes after originally climbing into bed, we put Annabelle back down to sleep and climbed back into our own bed again. Until Corgan woke up screaming about 10 minutes later... I had already fed and changed Corgan before our original bed attempt, but he didn't want to stay in his basinett. Even while he was at the hospital, the nurses who took care of him overnight had commented that he was a cuddler and didn't like to lay down by himself. I guess I didn't realize how right they were until last night! I got Corgan up to try to feed him again, but he just kept falling asleep. So I tried to put him down, and he screamed. The next 3 hours are kinda fuzzy now, but we went through very short spells of him sleeping in the basinett, longer spells of being fed while I sat up in bed, Keith trying to lull him to sleep with some rocking, diaper changes, and getting up to get water and meds for me. Finally, between 4 and 5 a.m. I decided to try to sleep with him laying on me while reclining on the couch. That worked, and Corgan and I slept for about 3 hours on the couch, but when I woke up my meds had worn off and I couldn't get up on my own so I laid there with a sore back and neck (from the couch) waiting for someone else to wake up. Sigh...

My back, neck, and shoulders still hurt enough to have given me a permanent headache. It's funny, you'd think that the pain meds that I'm on would help that, but they don't seem to. On top of the pain medicine, I'm having to take some cold medicine too because my throat has been red today, but it doesn't hurt too bad... just a little sore. My milk has also really come in now, so my boobs are pretty sore too.

Keith and my mom have been GREAT with taking care of just about everything that they possibly can. I can't imagine having to go through this by myself. Today Keith took Belle shopping for a while, and Belle is loving playing with Grammy. Grammy's also made us some great meals and has given Corgan lots of snuggle time. Tonight I brought the basinett out into the living room and let Corgan sleep in there to help him to get used to sleeping without cuddling, and he slept in it for around 3 hours! It's funny that he's such a cuddler already because that was one of the "features" that we planned for him in our Roadmap to Baby Donald 2.0. We picked that one, because Belle isn't a cuddler in general and we were both hoping that the next baby would like to cuddle a little more. Looks like we got that feature right. :)

Belle seems to be adjusting to having a baby around wonderfully, and she's been acknowledging him more and more. Tonight when I was reading Belle her book as a part of her bedtime routine, she heard Baby Corgan crying and told me "baby", then offered her blanket for him. It was so sweet! She still isn't interested in giving him kisses yet, but she likes to gently pet him and likes to check on him when he's sleeping. So far she hasn't shown any signs of jealousy, so hopefully that'll keep up!

Well, Corgan is all fed and resting in Grammy's arms, so I'm going to try to get some sleep before he's ready to eat again. I have lots more pictures to upload, and will hopefully get that done tomorrow. Here's wishing that tonight brings more (and more comfortable) sleep than last night!

Good luck with sleeping. I remember those days. Zach was a cuddler also!!! I wonder if Kaitlyn will be more like Annabelle. I'm so excited to see the differences between them.

I'm glad you have such a great support team!!! We can't wait to see more pics!
