Why Blog?

Why do I blog? Well... when I first started blogging it was for a couple of reasons. The #1 reason was so that I would record everyday things about Annabelle and wouldn't forget them. Yes, I could have kept a journal (which is what I did when I was pregnant), but I'm much faster at typing and there's the bonus #2 reason too... because I can share my stories with people who I don't see everyday. My plan is to eventually get all of my important blog entries printed so that I'll have them forever and can share them with my kids, but I haven't done that yet (I'm half-waiting to see if blogger ever offers this as a service before I have to go cutting and pasting all of the content into a document or photo book or something).

Today I was thinking about blogging though, and one of my favorite things about blogging (and reading others' blogs) is also one of the reasons that I loved being a part of Toastmasters... you learn things that you probably wouldn't otherwise. These "things" could be learning about different lifestyles, different experiences, or even about walking catfish! :) If it wasn't for blogging, I wouldn't have the insight that I now have into the lives of a mother of a child who has Downs syndrome, the journey of infertility, the everyday life of a friend across the ocean, travel stories that I might have never heard the details of otherwise, or even just regular day-to-day Mommy experiences. Through my friends' blogs (and even friends' of friends), I probably know more about the everyday lives of people who I don't see nearly often enough (or might have met only a few times) than I know about my closest friends who I see or talk to on a regular basis. Another bonus of blogging is learning about Mommy-related experiences from other moms whether it's through their own blogs or their helpful comments on my own blog.

Anyway, I think blogging rules and highly encourage others to do it too (and make sure that I know about it so that I can subscribe to and read your blog too)! Even if you only get to blog 4 times a year, it's probably about something that I didn't know about you so for me it's worth it. ;)

On an unrelated note, I just realized tonight that I had lots of pictures from all of the way back in June that I hadn't published to my photo gallery... until now. :) So, if you're so inclined, head on over to my photo gallery and take a look at the new albums, including "June Belle", "Swimming Lesson", "Smashing Pumpkins in Asheville", "Fun in Madison, AL", "Say Click... Take a Pic", "Meeting Ethan", and "Halle Fun". :) And if you don't have the time to go through all of those albums, here are a few of my favorites...

I completely agree with you Keri about blogging. I know I need to do it more often but I love reading them.

I love feeling that we haven't missed out on each other's lives even though we don't wee each other that often. I feel like I know your kids and we can pick up right where we left off when we do visit.

I HAVE learned so much about other people's struggle and triumphs that I like to think it makes me a better person and more sensitive to the differences of life.
