Minor Setback, but Recovered

Friday night my mom got home to finally get a little rest only to be woken up an hour later (around 1am) by a call from my dad all scared and saying that they'd given him the wrong medicine and he was having problems. She immediately called the nurse who informed her that wasn't the case, but that he did have a problem with the IV issuing the dopamine and they were working to resolve that. The IV had begun infiltrating (couldn't be absorbed into his vein) so the meds were just going into his skin. The charge nurse told my mom that this happens in about a third of the recovery patients so it was something that they were used to handling. Regardless, my dad was scared (especially since he was still on meds and wasn't quite thinking clearly anyway) so mom headed back to the hospital. When she arrived 3 nurses were working on him trying to get the runaway dopamine taken care of and trying to find a new vein. They couldn't find a good vein so they ended up connecting the IV to the port in his neck which was being used for the heavy meds. Throughout the night, his blood pressure was low so they were working on getting that up too. Needless to say, neither my mom or dad got much sleep that night.

When the day shift nurse arrived, he was a very positive-thinking type person (which my dad loves) and assured my dad that they were going to get him back on track before his shift was over. That alone seemed to make dad feel better. During the day, his bp returned to normal and they got his erratic heartbeats taken care of too. Because of the issues they'd been having, they didn't have dad try walking until the end of the day, but he did do one "lap" around the floor, so that was a big step. My sister arrived during the day to relieve my mom for a little while so she could go home and get some much needed rest.

Since everything seemed to be going well last night, my mom was able to go home and get some sleep overnight. It sounds like my dad finally got some good rest too. They're hoping to have him up to doing 7 laps total for today (38 laps = 2 miles, and they'll keep increasing his daily laps until he's up to 38 total for the day then he's ready to go home). Overnight his bp stayed in the good range, and he's been released to start eating whatever he wants. Of course, that means that he's going to be loading up on Xango (anyone who knows dad knows how much he believes in its immune-system building powers which will help his weakened immune system to get stronger and get him healthy)! We're also hoping that mom is able to bring the computer back into the hospital today so that we can get back on video-skype with dad and he can talk to Bellee.

Thanks again for all of the prayers and good wishes!
